I download Birdiesync 1.3.0.2, but when i try to run the installation it says "Error while registering DesktopProvider.dll" and it stops.

My configuration is Activesync 4.2, Thunderbird 1.5.0.8 and Lightning 0.3.

I would like to install Birdiesyng because i think that it could solve many problems in synchronizing my PDA.

Can you help me?

Hello,

The log file you sent me doesn't show any particular error. I will need to investigate this problem with you.
Could you check if the file regsvr32.exe is present in C:\Windows\System32 ?
Have you administrator rights on your machine ?
Thanks.

Just for information, it seems that this error can be raised when BirdieSync is installed without administrator rights.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem. My domain username has full admin rights, and I have even tried loging in as the local administrator. In all cases the installer stops while trying to register DesktopProvider.dll. Versions are:

BirdieSync 1.5.4.3
ActiveSync 4.5.0
Thunderbird 2.0.0.0
Lighting 0.3.1

Regards,
Michael

Hello Michael,

Right after the error, do you have something in the log Install.log located in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\BirdieSync\Log\
?

Do you have something written in DesktopProvider.log ?
Also is it possible for you to upgrade to the last version of BirdieSync and Lightning 0.5 (uninstall BirdieSync first) or do you still want to use Lightning 0.3.1 (uninstall BirdieSync first) ?

Ok.... I'd upgraded to Lightning 0.5 a week ago. I downloaded the latest 1.5.7.0 of BirdieSync, connected my 02 XDA mini via IR, ran BirdieSync it and the problem is the same.

BirdieSync paused on "Registering desktopProvider.dll" and never continued. I had to kill it from the Task Manager.

Install.log is empty.
DesktopProvider.log has
Local 25/07/2007 06:02:39::0843 BirdieSync: version 1.5.7.0
Local 25/07/2007 06:02:39::0968 Operating system: id 2, version 5.1, SP 2.0

Regards,
Michael

This problem was fixed in version 1.5.7.1.

Version 1.5.7.1 can't be installed on my ASUS MyPal A636 !
All is good up to the installation on the PDA: the soft can't find room for it's program or can't create the directory !?!
If I try to do the same installation with version 1.5.7.0, it works fine ... so I'm blocked at this version.

I think this is due to the correction of the last problem explain here before.

My PDA: ASUS MyPal A636 with WM5
My computer: Windows XP pro (up to date)

Hello,

Could you tell me what is displayed in BirdieSync installer when the proplem occurs ?
Do you have an error message on the mobile ?
What is the exact error message ?
Thanks.

Installation de "Device ActiveSync Provider"
The only way to stop it is to unplug the pda.
Then I got the message
"Impossible d'obtenir les informations concernant l'appareil. Reconnectez-vous et réessayez."
which is normal as I'm unpluged...
On the PC, the installation is good and end normally after that problem... But nothing on the PDA !

Is that help you ?
