I have just upgraded my PC (new motherboard) and on re-installing Birdiesync it will not launch Thunderbird and sync.

I am using Vista, TB2 and BS 1.5.4

There are error in the log files shown below.

Any suggestions as to what is causing the problem??

Hello pewe,

The first error seems to indicate that BirdieSync is not installed on your mobile. Is it a new one that you use for synchronization ? Could you try to reinstall BirdieSync on your mobile (you can copy on the mobile the appropriate cab file (located in BirdieSync installation directory) and then execute it).

The second error is logged because Sunbird is very likely not installed on your machine. So it is not very important.

Thanks Birdie, but I managed to resolve the problem.

Just for interest, this is what happened.

It was a new motherboard and I took the opportunity to use a larger hard drive so re-installed Vista and all the programmes.

I already had Birdiesync running on the mobile from the previous installation, and when I installed Birdiesync on the new PC it tried to uninstall on the mobile but could not, so I manually unistalled it and re-installed it (just in case there were changes).

When I ran sync, it would not work.
When I checked the files on the mobile I found that there was no preferences file (even though WMDC had confirmed that it saved the settings to the mobile).

So I uninstalled Birdiesync on the PC and re-installed it (cancelling the install on the mobile this time).

When I setup the sync, this time it worked.

Thanks again for your prompt response (efficient support as always) - and also for a great product.

You're welcome.

Actually, the preference files is not saved by the WMDC. The fact that you couldn't find it on the mobile was very likely linked to the problem of installation on the mobile. I think that BirdieSync was not properly reinstalled the first time.

The unistallation problem was maybe linked to the Windows Mobile uninstallation bug (there is a dedicated topic for it). Unfortunatelly, I found no patch to install on the mobile to correct this issue.

Unfortunatelly, I found no patch to install on the mobile to correct this issue.
The way I did it was to use a utility called SK tools to 'kill' the process Birdiewatcher then to manually delete the files.

I am no programmer, but maybe you could use a similar method to the one they use to kill Birdiewatcher process before the uninstall procedure in your install runs.

Actually, I dont't think that the problem comes from BirdieWatcher.exe process. You had to kill it because uninstallation could not be successfully completed and you had to do it manually. BirdieSync stops BirdieWather.exe when uninstalling. But there is a Windows Mobile bug in uninstaller regarding memory management which leads to a failure...

I told you I was not a programmer

:) I must admit that this bug is very annoying. And it doesn't concern only BirdieSync but other applications as well... On Windows Mobile 5, it's often very uneasy to unistall an application (at least on my mobile). :( If someone has heard of a patch to install, I would be very happy to know it...
