In which Pocket Outlook mail account and in which folder did you write your mail ? Was it in ActiveSync/E-mail Outlook (only this mobile mail account is synchronized) or in another mobile mail account ?

I am usually using my domain name address.
Would rather not post it here for the spambots to find.

Was it in ActiveSync/E-mail Outlook (only this mobile mail account is synchronized) or in another mobile mail account ?

Not quite sure what you mean.
And I have been confused why it has the Outlook Email folder.
Any of my accounts can end up in that folder.

Was it in mobile draft folder ?

No.

Is the mail that disappeared a mail that you wrote on the PDA ? Did you sent it while your mobile was connected by wifi ?

Yes and yes.

Thanks

OK. I will try to be clearer.

If I am not mistaken, under Pocket Outlook, there are two type of mail accounts:
One is only used for synchronization and you cannot bind it for instance to smtp and pop3 servers. This mail is called ActiveSync under Windows Mobile 2003 or E-Mail Pocket Outlook under Windows Mobile 5.0. It is used to be a "copy" of your Outlook or Thunderbird mail local folders. Presently, only this mobile mail account is synchronized with Thunderbird.
With the other accounts, you can bind them to smtp and pop3 and send mail directly with them. But it is not yet possible to synchronize them with Thunderbird.

From what I understand, if you succeed to send mail from your mobile by WIFI, it means that you use a mobile mail account bound to smtp and pop3 servers which is different from Active Sync/E-mail Outlook mobile account. If it is the case, this mobile mail account is not synchronized (at least with your present version of BirdieSync).

Does that mean that The Outlook Email folder is for use with an exchange server or something?

But, I have successfully synced these POP accounts, just not consistently.
I am using BirdieSync 1.5.4.3

I am a little bit puzzled. Normally BirdieSync only have access to mobile folders located under ActiveSync/E-mail Outlook accounts. It is not supposed to synchronize mobile folders in Pocket Outlook which are under additional mobile mail accounts to access to pop3 and smtp servers.
I made a test again with a mail present in the Inbox of another mobile mail account and it is not synchronized to Thunderbird.

If BirdieSync isn't supposed to sync my regular email accounts, what is it supposed to sync?

And why is it doing what I want it to do at least part of the time, if it isn't supposed to do that?

My accounts are my domain address, a gmx.de account, and four gmail accounts.

Actually, the synchronization of additional mail accounts on Thunderbird (not under local folders) and of mobile mail accounts will be provided in a next version. Presently it only supports Thunderbird local folders which is synchronized with the mobile account ActiveSync/E-Mail Outlook. Of course it is a restriction for the moment, and I understand you need it (as other users do) but it should be possible to synchronize additional mail accounts in the future.

So sorry if I didn't understand what you meant, but I thought you mentioned that the synchronization of these additional mail accounts on the mobile sometimes succeeded. And BirdieSync for the moment, is not supposed to synchronize them.

Now I am really confused.
Your software was doing what I wanted sometimes, but wasn't supposed to do it?

And to make this even more confusing, the mail I got on the PDA last night came to my PC this morning, even though I set it to not save mail on the server after download. Also, I hadn't yet connected the PDA when this happened.
All my domain name address email came to my PC.
Though a notification about this thread didn't.

When I connected the PDA to the PC later, all the mail on the PDA disappeared and didn't come to the PC.
So, I lost my sent mail and the thread notification that had come to the PDA on a gmail account.

I have no idea what is going on.

I'm confused too. So if I understand well: you send a mail or receive a mail with the mobile mail account: the received (and maybe sent) mails remain on the mail server. The mail server is also accessed with Thunderbird under "Local folders". So actually the received mail for instance is written in two places: I suppose in your "Inbox" mobile folder under your mobile mail account and in the Inbox folder of Thunderbird maybe after it is downloaded again from the server. And maybe it is the same thing with sent mails if one copy is automatically made by the server. Am I correct or did I misunderstood everything ?

It would seem so, even though that isn't the way I set it up.
Is it possible that the mail server doesn't delete the copy because it sees that a mobile downloaded it?

The mail server is also accessed with Thunderbird under "Local folders".

Yes. And I put all my mails in the same group of folders in Local Folders, no matter which account. I don't have six inboxes like I end up with in Pocket Outlook.

At least it was this morning.
It might have done it before, but I was assuming it came to the PC on sync, not a second download.

And maybe it is the same thing with sent mails if one copy is automatically made by the server. Am I correct or did I misunderstood everything ?

I don't think the server is re-serving the sent mail.
And sent mail is getting lost when I sync.

Hope I was clear.

I don't think that the server is aware if it is a mobile who downloaded it, but some mail server can be configured to keep a copy of the downloaded message in the Inbox (gmail for instance). And you can also set some options on the mobile to only download the message header.

On your mobile you should have 7 mail accounts:
- ActiveSync/E-mail Outlook
- The 6 mail accounts that you set up

BirdieSync synchronizes Thunderbird local folders only with ActiveSync/E-mail Outlook mobile account

So maybe the mails that were received on your mobile were then received when downloaded a second time from some mail servers.

Regarding mails sent on the mobile, did you get them in Thunderbird before ?

Maybe you could check the options of your mail servers or your mobile accounts and do some tests (without synchronizing) with your mail servers

That didn't make much sense to me either.

but some mail server can be configured to keep a copy of the downloaded message in the Inbox (gmail for instance).

I have it configured to download the whole message.

I had said previously that I didn't set my accounts up that way.
True, I had set them up that way in Thunderbird.
But, I just looked in the PocketOutlook options again, and it isn't giving me the choice of whether it deletes from the server or not.
So, I am guessing that the default configuration is to NOT delete mails from the server.

And you can also set some options on the mobile to only download the message header.

On your mobile you should have 7 mail accounts:

That is correct.

BirdieSync synchronizes Thunderbird local folders only with ActiveSync/E-mail Outlook mobile account

I am still confused as to what that Outlook mobile account is for.

So maybe the mails that were received on your mobile were then received when downloaded a second time from some mail servers.

I know for sure that I got the sent mails at least once from the PDA to the PC.
But, the sender field went blank.

Maybe you could check the options of your mail servers or your mobile accounts and do some tests (without synchronizing) with your mail servers

Good idea.
Thanks.

I am still confused as to what that Outlook mobile account is for.
I think this mobile account is "reserved" for synchronization. Note that its first name was "ActiveSync" before becoming "E-mail Outlook". On that mail account you can never directly download or send mail with a mail server. But you can do it synchronizing with Outlook (which have this external access).

It is the case when you send a message from ActiveSync/E-mail Outlook.
