Aaaaa! Ginormous BirdieWatcher.log!

My PPC kept complaining about running out of flash memory and I couldn't figure out where it was all going... only to find that my BirdieWatcher.log file is now 33M! That's half of my flash memory... is there a setting somewhere to keep the logfile below a certain size?

I'm using 1.6.3.0.

[edit: correcting filename; it's BirdieWatcher.log, not BirdieSync.log...]

Hello,

There is no way to limit the size of this log. By now I suggest you to soft reset your mobile device, the file should be recreated.

Before restarting your mobile device, could you cut a relevant part of it from the beginning and send it to support(at)birdiesync.com ?
Thanks.

Sorry, I had already deleted the file by the time you replied. My PPC had 0 memory left and I couldn't even start programs or send email. I'll keep an eye on it and if it starts growing very large again I'll be sure to save it somewhere before deleting.

This issue occurred for me again. I'm still using 1.6.3.0 and my logfile was 29M. It is filled over and over again with lines such as the following; multiple times per second:

Code: Select all

Local 07/01/2008 09:52:33::0000 ERROR: Error in locating beginning while extracting value: buffer = <addressBookIdList class = "list" numberOfItems = "1">

pab

Personal Address Book

</addressBookIdList><defaultAddressBookId>pab</defaultAddressBookId><isAddressBookLinkedToCategory>0</isAddressBookLinkedToCategory><isUnmatchedAddressBookCategoryExcluded>0</isUnmatchedAddressBookCategoryExcluded><isAddressBookDisplayNameFilled>1</isAddressBookDisplayNameFilled><calendarIdList class = "list" numberOfItems = "0"></calendarIdList><defaultCalendarId></defaultCalendarId><isCalendarLinkedToCategory>0</isCalendarLinkedToCategory><isUnmatchedCalendarCategoryExcluded>0</isUnmatchedCalendarCategoryExcluded><mailFolderIdList class = "list" numberOfItems = "0"></mailFolderIdList><calendarPastPeriodNumber>-1</calendarPastPeriodNumber><calendarPastPeriodUnit>-1</calendarPastPeriodUnit><calendarApplication>3</calendarApplication><applicationPath>C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\</applicationPath><isPortable>0</isPortable><profile>C:\Documents and Settings\toby\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\mjb7sej1.default</profile><storageId></storageId><sunbirdApplicationPath></sunbirdApplicationPath><isSunbirdPortable>0</isSunbirdPortable><sunbirdProfile></sunbirdProfile><sunbirdStorageId></sunbirdStorageId><frequencyNumber>-1</frequencyNumber><frequencyUnit>-1</frequencyUnit><mailBodyMaximumSize>25</mailBodyMaximumSize><isMailAttachmentSynchronized>1</isMailAttachmentSynchronized><mailAttachmentMaximumSize>25</mailAttachmentMaximumSize><mailPastPeriodNumber>-1</mailPastPeriodNumber><mailPastPeriodUnit>-1</mailPastPeriodUnit><synchronizationStartAlert>0</synchronizationStartAlert><synchronizationEndAlert>0</synchronizationEndAlert>, beginning = <mailIdentityId> (GetLastError = 0)

As far as I can tell, the sync has pretty much been working correctly lately...

Hello,

Could you send to support(at)birdiesync.com the file Preferences.xml located in:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<users name>\Application Data\BirdieSync\
Vista: C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\BirdieSync\
(Application Data is a hidden folder: in explorer window, you must check the option "Show hidden files and folders")
Thanks.

Thanks. I received the preferences file. Could you tell me which date and version was written at the top of BirdieWatcher.log ?
Could you please also send me the file Preferences.xml which is located on your mobile in \Program Files\BirdieSync ?

on its way...

That's weird. The error mentioned in BirdieWatcher.log refers to a preference file whose format is not compatible with BirdieSync 1.6.x.x. So it was very likely a preference file used with an earlier version. But the preference file on the mobile device that you sent to me is not the one who leaded to errors and seems compatible with 1.6.3.0...
Would you have another Preferences.xml file somewhere on the mobile device ?

Not that I know of! I do have a Program Files folder on my storage card, but there is no BirdieSync folder on it. Is there anyplace else it could be picking it up from?

I was planning to upgrade to 1.6.4.0 when I get the chance anyway, should I just wipe out the preferences when I do?

I couldn't think of particular places to look for on the mobile for an alternative preference file. Maybe a global search would help...
The preference file should be automatically replaced when connecting the mobile device. And the file that you sent to me seemed correct.

Did you keep a full copy of BirdieWatcher.log ? If yes, even if it's big, could you send it to support with a service like http://www.yousendit.com ?
Is it also possible to search on your desktop if there is a place where another Preferences.xml would be located ?
Thanks.

Birdy, did you get a chance to go over the full log I sent? Can the log at least be set to only write a certain # of these type of exception, or have BirdieWatcher truncate the log after it grows to a certain size? This is happening with more and more frequency, and each time I need to kill BirdieWatcher from the task manager then manually delete the logfile.
