I found that we may only sync items (memo, events, to-do) with Chinese characters from a WM6 device to Thunderbird, but not the other way. Is there a solution to this problem or there is no solution yet?

The characters appear normally in Lightning but appears as question marks or squares in my HTC TyTN II (Kaiser)
I typed the characters 白兔牌 in the "tasks" description from my Kaiser, after I synced the device, the "tasks" in Lightning appears as "?"
I have to correct the characters in Lightning and sync again to have it showing properly in my Kaiser
I'll let you know if I gathered more examples

So does it mean that it doesn't work from the mobile device -> Lightning and on the contrary that it does work from Lightning -> the mobile device ?
Did you see fields where the synchronization worked properly (from the mobile device -> Lightning) ?
Which language have you on your mobile device and in Lightning ?
With which version of BirdieSync did you do your tests ?

I tested again:
Chinese in Lightning--> sync--> no problem in PPC
Chinese in PPC--> sync--> missing Chinese characters in Lightning
I just tried the words "買內線電話" in the tasks field, and what I got in Lightning is "買內線電", the last character is missing...
My TyTN II (Kaiser) is an English version with CE Star 2.8 Chinese system installed
Lightning 0.7 (2007102304)

That's really strange. I don't succeed in reproducing the problem.
Here is what I did:
I created an event in Lightning with "買內線電話" in the title field.
I synchronized it on the mobile device. It is displayed properly.
Then I copied the title and pasted it in the creation of a task (Object/Title field and description field).
Then I synchronized it from the mobile device to Lightning. It is displayed properly...
So maybe I did something different from you ?
If you do the same thing as I did, do you have a different result ?
Is it because I didn't enter the word "買內線電話" manually on the mobile device ?
Do you have this problem with the appointments ?
With all task and appointment fields ? (title, location, description)

the problem happens also on the appointments, I will also test the other fields tonight

Just tested on appointments and seems only the title field has the problem, same characters in "Location" and "description" field has no problems

The title is not managed in the same way as the location and description fields.
I couldn't reproduce the problem, but I sent you a mail with a new version to install to investigate on this problem.
