Problems Installing BirdieSync 1.7.0.2

I am trying to update from BirdieSync 1.6 to BirdieSync 1.7. I have Thunderbird 2.0.0.17, ActiveSync 4.5, and Windows XP Pro SP-3.

:D I uninstalled BirdieSync 1.6 as Administrator user, the Thunderbird addon was removed automatically as normal user.
:) I uninstalled the Mobile PC component of BirdieSync from the mobile.
8) I synchronised my Mobile PC and left it in a synchronised and connected state.
 I ran the BirdieSync 1.7.0.2 installer as Administrator user.
 I get to select language, agree to the license, pass over backup caution, and...
 wait 10-15 second before getting an error stating "an error occurred when attempting to connect to your mobile".
:| I have no problem with opening explorer or add/remove programs from ActiveSync.

:?: Any thoughts?

William.

Hello,

Could you try to soft reset your mobile device ? (reboot it)
Could you also try to restart ActiveSync as mentioned in this FAQ topic ?
Then relaunch the installer.

Soft reset Mobile PC.
Checked ActiveSync not running on Mobile PC.
Terminated WCESMgr.exe and wcescomm.exe on Windows.
Restarted installer as Administrator.
Same result.

Do you have the same problem if you disable your firewall ?
What is the content of BirdieSyncInstall.log located in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Temp\
Thanks.

This is what error I find in the BirdieSyncInstall.log:

Local 10/10/2008 16:35:25::0109 ERROR: Error while initializing RAPI (result = 0x80080005) (GetLastError = 1444)

This rather seems an ActiveSync problem...
Could you try to kill "rapimgr.exe" process ?
If you get the error again during the installation, could you check that "rapimgr.exe" process was automatically relaunched after the connection error ?
Could you confirm that you tried to disable your firewall ?
Do you have the same problem if you reboot your computer ?

I restarted the computer.
Killed rapimgr.exe (remote api manager).
Killed the other two tasks associated with the sync.
Restarted the installation.
Got a can't find mobile device error.
From ActiveSync did a manual connect and got queried on profile which I selected myself and then cancelled because I did not want to create a profile.
Got a connection and hit retry upon which it worked.

Second attempt.

Thank you.

 William.

After killing the ActiveSync processes, it is necessary to restart manually ActiveSync (from the start menu for instance) to relaunch the processes. There are not automatically started when you connect your mobile device.
