Androïd is coming and there is an obvious lack of desktop sync application.

Are you interested in to invest effort to port BirdieSync to achieve a Thunderbird<->Androïd sync application ?

You can already sync Lightning with Google Calendar, and I presume Android is on good terms with Google Calendar

If you use IMAP for your mails there should be no need for mail syncing.

Address books I'm not sure about, though.

I too would like to add my vote for the BirdieSync for the Android. I was extremely happy with how my Win Mobile phone and Thunderbird worked together so seamlessly via Birdiesync. While it is possible to sync via gmail and google calendar, it would be great to be able to update my contacts and calendar even if I was off-line.

yeah birdiesync was the only good thing on Windows Mobile! Got to move on though, Android will be the next thing. Any news here?

It would be great to have birdiesync with android.
My trep pro is good but the only thing keeping me on it is the ability to sync with thunderbird and it's calendar.

The contract on my WinMob phone ends in a few months' time - and it'll be my last WinMob phone, as it's clear that application developers are starting to move away from Windows towards Android. So that's where I'm going.

Wouldn't it be great if by the time I switched over we had a working BirdieSync for Android? It really is head and shoulders above other solutions I've tried. Like so many others here, I've no desire to give all my data to Google, for its robots to pore over and analyse. It's my data.

Yeah! BirdieSync for Android would be great.
My next phone will be a HTC Desire, but I hesitate buying because of the missing sync feature for Thunderbird.
I don't want to "share" my calendar and contacts with the whole world (google calendar ). Yes, of course, I'm a bit paranoid
If dev manpower is needed for that, I would possibly help out.
I'm a professional software developer and could do some work in spare time (money wouldn't be a big issue).

Maybe you could try this:

1. Install Egroupware on (your) server: http://www.egroupware.org/?&lang=en
Egroupware is able to sync contacts, calendar, tasks via SyncML

2. Use this synthesis Android SyncML client:

No experiences by myself, I still have my WM-device.
