Thunderbird add-on update notification

Hello,
I couldn't find it on the forum yet, so here my wish for a thunderbird add-on update notification.
A few days ago I checked the BirdieSync website and found out there was a new version available.
Isn't it possible to notify on thunderbird start, that there is a new version available (perhaps a new option in the options dialog to switch checking on/off)
Updating via the add-on would be great, but just a notification would be okay for now
