SMS Sync

Hi all, I recognize how useful it would be to sync email, but what I really need is a sync of my SMS folder tree as at present I have no way to even back it up

Don't get me wrong, most of the SMS I receive are garbage, but there is always the odd one you want to keep. Also, having SMS synced to Tbird would make it much easier to delete the chaff.

Is this likely to be a possibility in the future? If it could be included in the upcoming email sync, that would be great

regards

Robert

This feature will not be included in next release with mail synchronization. But indeed it could be a good idea...

Actually, this functionality is already present. :) Simply create an account whose name must be "SMS" under Thunderbird and fill dummy values for the server parameters , etc. Then you'll be able to synchronize its folders with your SMS account on the mobile.
Note that by now, it is not possible to synchronize MMS.

As usual, before synchronizing your SMS for the first time, it is recommended to backup them with a tool like PPCPimBackup.

SMS Sync under Mobile 6

There seems no way to sync SMS under Mobile 6 due to the handling of the file types. Any suggestions?

Hello,

What do you mean by the "handling of the file types" ? Could you give me further information ? MSS cannot be synchronized but SMS should.
Thanks.

I am using WM6 with the MDA III from T-Mobile in Germany. The SMS and MMS accounts here are combined into one account. The file types were SMS and MMS. Since you cannot sync MMS as a file type, I was thinking, that was the problem -- the handling of the file types SMS and MMS. When I create an account on Thunderbird called "sms" I get the following message on my mobile:

"The mail account "sms" selected for sync cound not be found. Create it on the mobile before syncronizing again."

I have tried to sync by creating an account on my mobile "sms \ mms" and a number of combinations thereof, nothing worked.

I cannot create separate sms and mms accounts on this device for some reason. I also cannot delete the sms \ mms account pre-installed.

Any suggestions?

Hello,
I have an HTC Touch too and I confirm that it's work properly.
If the name of the mail account in THB is exactly "SMS", BirdieSync synchronize all sms messages,
else you have an error message on your mobile like [The mail account "toto" selected for synchronization could not be found. Create it ...]

bye.

I've managed to sync SMS with my Touch, creating an "empty" POP account in thunderbird and it works like a charm for received messages, but can't get it to sync sent messages or drafts - not even creating the folders in thunderbird :(

I find that specifying ANY TB mail account as due for synchronisation in ActiveSync's options results in error messages - usually 'Attention required' - and a lack of any syncing at all.

This is on an HTC Kaiser/TyTN II and the latest rev of Thunderbird. I have an email account set up as SMS, with fake names in the server address and username fields. What else have people changed to make it work?

Hello Manek,

I will need some log files to investigate your problem.
Could you send me them as described in this thread ?
Thanks.

Dear Birdy,

could you pls. check the following situation?

I use my xda comet (german atom / wm6 / vista) for synchronizing with my exchange account (only my email inbox and send)
I do not sync my emails with my desktop
I would also sync my sms with birdiesync and add the new account in thunderbird as written above.

When it starts to synchronize, I get an error on my pda display (pls. disconnect,..)
If I remove the exchange sync flag in ActiveSync / options (in my pda) it seem's to work, but it doesn't synchronize my sms (inbox - Posteingang in germany) with thunderbird (2.0.0.9 german / lightning 0.7 german)
I doublechecked the flag "sync sms inbox / send) in birdiesync options, so I think, it should work,.. ?! Any ideas?

Patrick

Hello,

Do you have an error message or nothing at all ?
If you create a mail in your SMS Inbox in Thunderbird and then launch the synchronization, is it synchronized on your mobile device ?
Did you check that the ActiveSync/WMDC options "mail" was selected ? (not Outlook "E-mail")
Thanks.
