Here's my situation.
I have one PC with XP on it running Thunderbird V1.5 with one Profile contining 6 address books and one calendar.
I have another PC running Vista with a 'naked' install of TB V1.5 (ie no accounts set up and no calendars or Address books) and an 'empty' profile in it which has an empty calendar in the Lightning extension.
I use IMAP for e-mail, so at this stage am not worried about sync of e-mail.
I have a new Win Mobile 5 Pocket PC which has no Phone books or Calendar on it.
My question is:
If I use Activesync on the XP PC to sync the addressbooks and Calendar
to the Pocket Pc, and then connect it to the Vista PC can I use the Mobile Centre to sync the info onto it.
If so, I assume that on the Vista PC I have to setup a calendar and 6 empty addressbooks with the same names first, is that correct?
Thereafter, I assume that any changes made on either of the PC's will sync to the Pocket PC, which in turn when next connected to the other PC will update that - is that the case.
If what I have assumed above is correct, it will save me having to use other methods to transfer the data from my current XP PC to the Vista one, and then repeat the process when I eventually replace the XP PC with a clean install (rather than upgrade) of Vista/
Sync with Two PC's - Vista and XP
Yes you can.If I use Activesync on the XP PC to sync the addressbooks and Calendar to the Pocket Pc, and then connect it to the Vista PC can I use the Mobile Centre to sync the info onto it.
That's right. You need to create the address books yourself on Windows Vista. They are not automatically created by BirdieSync. If so, I assume that on the Vista PC I have to setup a calendar and 6 empty addressbooks with the same names first, is that correct?
But to get the first synchronization running properly, you should have chosen "Link address book to contact category" on desktop AND on Vista desktops. If you didn't, contacts will not be linked to a particular address book, and all your contacts will be synchronized in the default Vista address book.
Last recommendation: check that the address book names are identical on XP and Vista.
Yes.Thereafter, I assume that any changes made on either of the PC's will sync to the Pocket PC, which in turn when next connected to the other PC will update that - is that the case.
Last recommendation, as usual: do a backup of your Thunderbird/Sunbird profile before synchronizing.
