Android 4.1.1 (HTC One S) - BirdieSync does not work anymore

Hello guys,

I am a real fan of birdiesync and use this software over years now (starting with Windows Mobile). Yesterday I updated my HTC One S (1&1 Branding) to Android Version 4.1.1. I reconnected with my desktop PC via USB as usual to synchronize with Thunderbird / Lightning but nothing happend.

I already installed HTC Sync Manager to get new USB drivers. USB Debugging is (re-)activated. With Android 4.1.1 I can not choose "only charging" so I use "none" as the USB connection type. All others intend to share any kind of internet connection. Nevertheless I have a "removable device" in my "Computer folder" and full access to the flash drive of my htc.

Furthermore if I choose any other USB connection type, USB drivers get reinstalled but fail to install. Only the connection type "none" will work correctly (with windows)

I reinstalled birdiesync on the device - but USB still does not work. By the way: WiFi Sync is working just fine!

Desktop:
Thunderbird: 17.0
Lightning: 1.9
BirdieSync: 2.4.5.0

Mobile:
Android 4.1.1
BirdieSync 2.3.9.0

Do you have any ideas?!

/E: by the way: with windows XP everything seems to work fine. The desktop I have problems with is on windows 7

Hello quippy,

From what you told me I would rather think that the problem is related to the USB driver. Actually the fact that you can access to the files on your Android devices with Windows doesn't mean that the USB driver properly works: it could be the default Windows driver which is used instead. This was the case for another user which could access to its files on the Android device but could not connect with BirdieSync via USB. Reinstalling all the drivers finally solved the problem (it was a Samsung device I think).

Note that in order for BirdieSync to be able to connect, the process adb.exe must be able to see the Android device.
To check this:

Open Command Prompt Windows (Windows Start menu/All programs/Accessories/Command Prompt)
Type:

If you have Windows 64 bits:
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\BirdieSync\Android\Adb\1.0.29
If you have Windows 32 bits:
cd C:\Program Files\BirdieSync\Android\Adb\1.0.29

adb.exe devices

If your Android device is properly connected it should list the device.

So I think it would be necessary to investigate on why the installation of the driver fails. Did you do some search on the net to see if other users had similar problems with the installation of the driver for the HTC One S ?

Hello,

I found the error. Everything was installed correctly. Ist was just the USB-Port. I accidently pluged the phone into a USB 3.0 port (blue port). Now I attached it to an USB 2.0 Port and everything works fine!

Thanks for your help!
