Problem with USB sync but not with WIFI

Post by Pago »

Hello, I've just updated my office laptop with the latest version of Birdiesync and I discovered that there is a problem syncing with USB connection.
I've updated also the HTC Sync driver and I wasn't sure about the real problem.
Sometimes on the device after a long time waiting "Connecting to host over USB" a message is showed: "Impossible to connect to host over USB, reconnect the device, Check that BirdieSync is running, Disable USB debugging...." and sometimes nothing happens...
Next step was to update ONLY Birdiesync on my home PC and the problem is the same.
Until yesterday I could sync both PCs with my HTC Desire (Froyo).
As I mentioned before WIFI sync still work like a charm, but no way on the wired connection and I need to use it in my office 'cause the WIFI network is configured only for connecting to the internet and not to domain's/workgroup PCs.
My specs are: HTC Desire with Android 2.2, HP laptop with Windows 7 64bit, HP Laptop with Windows 7 32bit.
If I type the command "C:\Program Files\BirdieSync\Android\Adb\1.0.31\adb.exe devices", the output is "SH0A7PL02780 device" in the list of device attached.
If someone (or Birdy) can help me I will appreciate very much!
Bye

Hello Pago,

If the "adb.exe devices" command returns a device identifier, I guess the Android driver properly works as well as adb.exe. Now the question is to know why the connection cannot be established...
Even if it works with Wi-Fi, did you try to temporarily disable your firewall ? (not simply trust the fact that BirdieSync is authorized and there could be a problem with adb.exe).
Did you try to reboot (restart your Android device) ?

Did you have this problem right after you updated BirdieSync to 2.4.5.2 ?
While BirdieSync is running, if you type the command "C:\Program Files\BirdieSync\Android\Adb\1.0.29\adb.exe devices" (note the 1.0.29 instead of the 1.0.31), it should switch to a previous version of adb.exe. Then try to connect your Android device via USB. Does it work better ?

After you failed to connect via USB and after you connected via Wi-Fi, could you send the logs to support(at)birdiesync.com ?

IMPORTANT: First, transfer the mobile device log to the desktop with "Help/Transfer mobile device log" while your mobile is connected.
Then build the log archive BirdieSyncLog.zip with BirdieSync menu "Help/Archive logs..." and send it to support(at)birdiesync.com.
Thanks.

I am also having the same problem as above. I have done what you recommended but it still is not working. I am getting this error message:

"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Please advise.

Hello NPouliquen,

I guess that if an error is reported by the Windows Device Manager, it may be a USB driver problem.
Which model of Android device do you have ?
Did rebooting solve the problem ?
Did you ensure you use the latest USB driver for your Android device ? You may find some links on the "Android USB drivers" page.

Hi Birdy, I solved speaking with my network admin and he opened some ports on the firewall, so now I can sync with wifi also in my office...
Next step is to uninstall HTC Sync from my pc ;-)
I tried to do everything you suggested, but still not working...
Sorry for the delay I'm answering with, but I was very busy at work.
Bye

@Pago:

To summarize:
- You can now synchronize with your Home PC and office laptop over Wi-fi.
- You cannot synchronize via USB with your your Home PC and office laptop
- If you execute "adb.exe devices" while your Android device is connected, you see "SH0A7PL02780 device" (or something similar)
Is this correct ?

Can you confirm that:
- adb.exe devices still displays your device
- You temporarily disabled your firewall (and maybe your anti-virus)
- You exited HTC Sync before connecting your mobile device (it could potentially interfere with USB connection)

If yes, after you tried to connect via USB, could you send the logs to support(at)birdiesync.com ?
After the unsuccessful connection via USB, connect via Wi-Fi (to be able to retrieve the device log)
Transfer the mobile device log to the desktop with "Help/Transfer mobile device log" while your mobile is connected.
Then build the log archive BirdieSyncLog.zip with BirdieSync menu "Help/Archive logs..." and send it to support(at)birdiesync.com.
Thanks.

I can confirm problem described here, after adb.exe service restarted in older version of adb (1.0.29) it works like a charm. Is there any way to make this change permanent?

Edit: I've sent the logs...
