BS systray icon <No Title> / Win Vista

BirdieSync 2.x shows a SysTray icon. Windows Vista has an option to hide tray icons to reduce clutter. I prefer to keep the BirdieSync icon hidden. However, the tray icon has <No Title> and therefore needs to be re-hidden every time the computer is restarted. Is there a known workaround? If not, can this be addressed in one of the upcoming versions of BirdieSync, please. It is only a minor annoyance, but would probably take a very minimal amount of effort to correct.

Thanks.

Hello watosdaw,
the tray icon has <No Title>
What do you mean by this. Could you give me more details ? (or a screenshot)
Thanks.

Sorry, this misunderstanding is probably because I am translating the wording from a German language operating system.

So, when you hover the mouse pointer over an icon in the systray (notification area of the task bar, to use the correct term), you get a tooltip or infotip (ie a small, yellow, hovering popup box) displaying the name of the app or some other useful information.

With the BS systray icon, you don't get any tooltip, presumably because this has not been defined by the developers.

Under Win Vista, systray behaviour can be defined in the [customise notification area] dialog. This is a dialog box with 2 columns, listing all systray icons (active or inactive). The left column shows the application's systray icon and its given "name" or description. The right column has an option to select whether to <show>, <hide> or <hide when inactive> the respective systray icon.

When no description is defined for a systray element, "<No Title>" will be displayed next to the respective systray icon. Windows Vista standard behaviour is not to save the <show> <hide> <hide when inactive> selection across system reboots when a systray element has no defined description. Regardless of what setting would have been selected previously, on reboot the OS reverts it to the state <hide when inactive>, which is the default state for any newly added systray element. With the BS systray icon this unfortunately means that it is always shown (presumably because the developers have not defined a specific routine for it to become inactive).

I have made screenshots, but don't seem to be able to figure out how to attach screenshots here. So I uploaded them here.
1) Vista [customise notification area] dialog with BS systray element "<No Title>"
2) Vista systray, showing BS icon with mouse over - no tooltip displayed
3) Vista systray, showing taskman icon with mouse over - relevant tooltip displayed

Thanks for the detailed explanations.
I sent you an email with a test version setting a tooltip for the system tray icon and a name for BirdieSync application.
Let me know if you see some progress.
Thanks.

I have received and installed the test version.

The BS systray element in the [customise notification area] dialog is now showing "BirdieSync".
The BS icon in the Vista systray is now showing a tooltip "BirdieSync".
(See link in previous post for updated screenshots.)

I have set the BS systray icon to <hide> in the [customise notification area] dialog and have rebooted the PC.
The BS systray icon now remains hidden, even after the reboot.

Job done, problem solved!

Many thanks for this swift reaction, Birdie.

Thank you for the feedback.
This fix will be included in next version of BirdieSync.
