Post by dremler » Wed Oct 09, 2013 10:10 am

Hello,

I got today an warning from avast anti virus.

He alert the file ComponentLoader.dll as Win32:Evo-gen[Susp]

Perhaps you can test it or clarify with avast?

Regards

Hello dremler,

Thank you for keeping me informed.
This a false positive.
You may check this file (version 2.4.6.0) with:
https://www.virustotal.com/

I contacted Avast about it so that they update their virus definition database.

Ensure that this file is not put in quarantine, otherwise BirdieSync add-on will not load in Thunderbird.

A small update on this issue.

Since the problem remains the same after last update of Avast database definition (131010-0) and program (8.0.1497), Avast was contacted again.

Note that when analyzed statically, Avast detects no virus. It's only when Thunderbird is launched that file ComponentLoader.dll is put in the Virus chest (quarantine).
This file should be located in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\BirdieSync\Thunderbird Service\components

If not, when you open BirdieSync options in Thunderbird, you got an error message.

It seems Avast fixed the problem with virus definition 131011-0. So update your virus definition if not done automatically.

You can either reinstall BirdieSync or restore ComponentLoader.dll from the virus chest (Right click on the file, Restore).
Then restart Thunderbird.

If the problem comes again, you can add the file generating a false positive to Avast global exclusion list (after a scan with http://www.virustotal.com for instance to ensure there is no problem with the file).
(Avast Parameters (at the top right), Global exclusions)
