WIFI Connection to Android

My current setup is Windows 10 (build 100074), TB 31 and BS2 - which all works fine using wifi to connect.
However, when trialling BS3 beta (to enable use of TB38) I get a message that my Android cannot connect to the server and recommending that I check the firewall. No settings have been changed between BS2 and BS3.
I'd be grateful for any advice.

Hello Jeremy,

Did you also registered and install the beta of BirdieSync app for Android (it is required in your installed the beta of the server) ?
If yes, in BirdieSync app on Android, in Settings, "Mode" tab, did you leave "Compatibility with 2.x" unchecked (it must not be checked to able to connect to BirdieSync 3.0 server).
Thanks.

Thanks, that was helpful, but I am still not working properly.
BS3beta, in BS2 mode, on my Android, will connect to TB31+BS2.
However, BS3beta, in BS3 mode, will not connect to TB38+BS3. I have the correct username and password (for setup purposes I just used a single letter for each) but, after the Android finds the server, I get the error message "Connection user or password mismatch". I presume, therefore, that I have missed a setting for 'connection', but while there is a box on the server to set a name for the connection there is not one one the Android (that I can find).
Really grateful for your support

J

In BS3 mode, in "Connexion" tab in BirdieSync Settings in the Android app, you should have a "User name" and a "User password" field.
Can you confirm that when you looked at the "Connection" tab, BS2 mode was unchecked in "Mode" tab ? (the fields displayed in the "Connection" tab are not the same along with the mode).

I apologise if I was unclear.
Yes, when trying to connect to TB8+BS3, I unticked the box labelled BirdieSync server 2.x.Y (Android BS cannot find the server unless this is unticked.).
Yes, after that I entered a username and a password on the Android and ensured that the BS3beta running on the server also had the same username and password. (For setup I just used a single letter for my username and for my password).
Despite repeated checks that username and password match on client and server (and have been saved), I get the same error message.

Do you have only one unique user created on the server ?
Your Android device is not yet declared ? (it doesn't appear among the list of sources)

Confirmed that there is only one user.
Confirmed that the Android does not appear under the list of sources on the Server.

Could you modify (with 2 letters for instance) the connection user name and password on Android, save, open again settings, enter again your 1 letter connection name and password and save ?
You may also do the same thing in BirdieSync server on the PC.

Note also that the current "User name" on the PC is only used to display the user in the Users list, and not to connect. It's the "Connection name" which must be entered on Android.

Do you still have a problem connecting ?

Thanks for your patience.
Changed both username and password on both server and Android to JB. Found the server over Wi-Fi, but still no connection.
Tried changing connection name to JB on server. Still no connection. I cannot find a place to enter a connection name in BS3Beta on mthe Android.

Sorry, the names may be misleading.
On Android the fields "User name" and "User password" matches "Connection name" and "Connection password" on the server.
So it may be necessary in a future version to use the same labels on both devices to avoid any confusion.

I've got the same problem. I'm sure I've got the right username and password in BS "3.0.0.0 beta 21" and in the Android app "3.0.0.0 beta 6". Still comes the message "connection user or password mismatch".
Windows (7) firewall permits BS to contact. I tried removing the user but stil I see "single source ready to synchronize". Does anybody know what might be the problem?

Hello GvT,

Note that passwords are case sensitive (which is no longer the case for user name). You can also click on the icon on the right of the user password field on the PC to display the new password you type.
I sent you a private message to ask you for more information.

The space behind the username was the problem.
I finally got it working. Super. There were many problems I stumbled in to.
The TB and BS versions did’nt match.
The BS en Android App versions did’nt match.
Password en username did’nt match.
When you’ve got all that right, you have to figure out configuration issues for contacts and events.
This and the facts that, I’m not a whizzkid, did it with a new modern Phone, and used TB and BS not much the last few years, makes ik extra hard to get it right. But figuring out all this made me understand mij Phone, TB and BS a little better. Right now I’m enthousiast about how it works, wireless and automatic.
A note for developpers: A checklist with possible mistakes (in the right priority) from installation to configuration might come in handy. But this is generally available on the BS-website, the forum and dialog screens in BS. Anyway, Birdy, thanks a lot for your swift support.
