Recently installed Thunderbird 2, Lightning & BirdieSync (little over a week ago). Everything went pretty well except for an initial message I can no longer remember exactly, to do with "no trusted certificate" (for BirdieSync).
As people often need to with Microsoft based devices, I had to do a soft reset 4 days ago.
I still have everything synchronising correctly between my HTC Apache with WM5 but after every reset on the PPC the error message "The file "BirdieWatcher" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file".
As it is still possible to sync everything I am presuming the problem is with certificates. Does anyone have a straightforward means of checking BirdieSync/BirdieWatchers' certificate settings so I can work round this.
TIA.
birdiewatcher.exe on PPC with error message
Hello davcom,
Could you give me the content of the file BirdieSyncInstall.log located in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Temp ?
Were you prompted to authorize BirdieWatcher.exe to run, after the installation ?
On the mobile, do yo have a log file BirdieWatcher.log in \Program Files\BirdieSync ? If it is present, what is its content ?
Thanks.

Hi Birdie
Along with the info you requested I have included the contents of the DeviceProvider.log as that did give some indication of an error.

I don't believe I was asked to authorise BirdieWatcher but I did have to have 2 bites at running the installation from the PC before it took on the PPC. (I uninstalled then reinstalled the main BirdieSync program. The 2nd time everything seem to go through ok. BirdieSync itself installed ok on the PC first time but the PPC side of things only took on the 2nd try.

Thank you for the logs. Everything seems OK apart from the fact that BirdieWatcher was not started.
Could you explore your mobile from the desktop, open folder \Windows\Startup, select BirdieWatcher and display the shortcut properties. Could you check that the path of this shortcut is correct and points to your BirdieWatcher.exe ?
Thanks.

Actually, it seems there is a problem on Windows Mobile with programs started at reboot which are located on the storage card. Very likely because the memory card is only enabled at the end of the reboot. It means that BirdieWatcher.exe cannot be automatically started at reboot if located on the storage card.
So the workaround would be to install BirdieSync on the main memory of the mobile.
Note that this problem doesn't occur on Windows Mobile 2003.

Reinstalled BirdieWatcher on PPC from CAB file successfully.
By successful I mean that I do not get the error message and the PPC has synched correctly as well.
Note that at end I was advised "The program you have installed may not display properly because it was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile software." (I _am_ using an HTC Apache, running WM5 and I used the PocketPC5.0 CAB file! I updated the firmware for the device a few months ago).
Many thanks for your help.
