a way to prevent data loss/ to warn the user?

a way to prevent data loss/ to warn the user?

Post by klaasklever »

hello,

(at 1st a note: switching board language to german at registering doesn't work).

i'm using birdiesync in the trial period. runs fine until now, but there is a BIG wish yet:
is it possible, to prevent kill important data (appointements), when synchronising to a new calender? i'm not sure, what went wrong. i had choosed the option "mobile device wins" to prevent such cases.
i remember too, that i choosed at the sync session before, in the old calendar, not to sync events, because i cleaned some of them on the mobile device and dont wanted to choose "combine with desktop". (active sync doesn't provide an "mobile device wins"-option in this case). the task were synchronized fine, but i synchronized them with the old calendar befor too.
perhaps this is too chaotic to understand the situation, sorry. but i know, that such data loss scenarios are possible, other users in ppc-welt.de-forums reported that.
i made a backup of my data before, but someone who didn't... .
coult you implement any feature that warns the user, that he's synchronizing his data into the great wide open?
that would make birdie sync even more secure than this r%(§$%)ing active sync... .

thanks and greets, kk

p.s.: the log of my last sync is attached now, anyway, if it helps or not:

Hello,

When you talk about "mobile device wins", is it an option regarding "conflict" ? Because in that case, it is only used if there are "unresolved items", it means if an error occured synchronizing one item or if an item was modified on both the desktop and the mobile.

Do you mean that you lost your appointments in the mobile calendar ?
When you talk about problems reported on ppc-welt.de-forums, was it with BirdieSync ? Do people lose some data because they choose the "replace" option during the first partnership establishement, so deleting their appointments on the mobile ?

If you want to emulate a "mobile device wins" option, you must choose a "combine" option (when creating the new partnership) with no items present in the desktop calendar.

Regarding the problem in the logs, I would need more information. Do you still have problems synchronizing events ?
