Will BirdieSync support Penelope?

Recently, the Mozilla Corporation announced it would no longer support Thunderbird and focus only on Firefox. Eudora and the Mozilla Foundation have teamed up to create an open source version that combines Eudora and Thunderbird into one e-mail client called Penelope. I have installed the beta version and it looks like Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 except with Eudora icons (in safe mode, it looks exactly like TBird except the Eudora icon in the title bar). Menus, Add-in manager, etc. are the same from my perspective.

I realize this software is still in beta, but are there plans to update BirdieSync to support Penelope when it is officially released? It appears the address book and mail formats are the same as Penelope is using my Thunderbird profile for both. I am only curious as this appears to be one avenue for future Thunderbird growth and development as has been discussed at the MozillaZine forum.

Thanks for your time and a fantastic product - BirdieSync has allowed me to shake off Outlook but not give up my PocketPC. And, I have to say that it works better than syncing with Outlook, too.

Mozilla didn't really announce that they won't support Thunderbird anylonger. But rather that they were considering several possible new organizations for the Thunderbird project (inside Mozilla foundation or not). It's too early to know exactly how the situation will evolve, for the benefit of Thunderbird I hope.

Regarding Penelope, I don't know yet. It will depend on the future of Penelope.

Hello Birdy - good point, and I see now that I jumped to some conclusions. I, too, hope the future is bright for Thunderbird and will keep my eye on what develops in the coming months.

Regarding Penelope, I see now that it is an extension to Thunderbird to add Eudora icons and menus to Thunderbird. No worries, I was curious what your position was in case this turns out to be the future for Thunderbird.

My apologies again for my moment of "panic". I agree, it is best to sit back and see what happens. For now, Thunderbird and BirdieSync are working beautifully and that is all I can ask for at this time.
