can no longer sync w/ outlook

Post by tobiasly »

I just upgraded to the latest version and found that BirdieSync now completely refuses to sync both Thunderbird address book and Outlook contacts. I realize there is a "warning" against doing this which can possibly lead to conflicts but I have never had a problem with it.

I can understand you may want to give a warning by default but there should at least be an option to say "I know what I'm doing and want to sync both anyway". BirdieSync has now become much less useful for me so I hope this capability is added back as an option.

To further compound my problem, I can't even un-select the Outlook "Contacts" in ActiveSync because it says "To proceed, ActiveSync must remove all Contacts on your Pocket PC. Do you want to continue?"

Grrrr!! Lazy !#@(&! Microsoft programmers... please bring this feature back to work around this brain-dead ActiveSync!

OK, I will see if it is possible to disable this checking.

Do you have a mobile device running under Windows Mobile 2003 or 5.0 ?
When you synchronize, do you sometimes have unresolved items which are automatically resolved at next synchronization (this can happen if you have both Outlook and BirdieSync synchronization selected at the same time) ?

Thanks for the reply Birdy, I am running Windows Mobile 5 with ActiveSync 4.5. I believe I have seen the behavior you describe with Events but not with Contacts/Cards; I don't believe I've ever had a problem with unresolved items or conflicts with those types.

Sometimes it looks like it automatically cycles through several Syncs when I connect (I'm guessing depending on where I entered the data, the BirdieSync change causes Outlook to change also) but it always ends up with the correct data in all 3 locations (phone, TBird, Outlook).

Thanks for this information. Actually for technical reasons, that should work better with Windows Mobile 5.0 devices (aside from mails).

Very often, ActiveSync uses two synchronization cycles to synchronize. Maybe synchronizing with Outlook and BirdieSync simultaneously increases the number of cycles.
