Hi,
I have had some problems with Vista not recognizing my PDA (WM6). Now it works again, but syncing seems to be incomplete.
Some items from my pda don't sync into Lightning.
Is there a way to force Birdiesync to do a complete resync from scratch with combining the two calendars and then removing duplicates?
Thanks for any help,
Oliver
How do I do a complete resync?
Re: How do I do a complete resync?
Hello Oliver,
If you delete the partnership with your mobile device, that should force a complete resynchronization of the mobile and at the end of it, duplicates should be eliminated. Before doing it, I suggest you to backup your Thunderbird or Sunbird profiles, or the data on your mobile device with a tool like PPCPimBackup.
If you modify one of this item on the PDA, is it not synchronized on the desktop ? Do you have some errors displayed ?
Did you select an option to exclude some categories from synchronization ?
Thanks.

Could you tell me more about this ?Some items from my pda don't sync into Lightning

Re: How do I do a complete resync?
I did not sync for some weeks now because I had problems connecting my PDA with Vista.
I think I did a hard reset in the meanwhile on my PDA but restored my backup and all my events with SPB Backup.
I then indeed deleted my partnership, uninstalled and reinstalled Device Center, recreated the partnership and then connection did work again.
But not all new items from my PDA were synced to Lightning. No error message, Birdysync simply seems not to see some items. Other items I add for testing sync fine in both ways (PDA->PC and PC->PDA). I do not use categories at all, so no options set.
So there should be really a way that is more simply to do a resync. Maybe you can add a button for advanced users in an upcoming version?
Thanks,
Oliver

BTW:
I had this occur twice now:
All my events on my PDA were lost after a sync with Birdiesyc. How can this happen? Fortunately I had backups made with SPB Backup, so I could restore the PIM databases.

It's not normal that some of your events are not synchronized. And it's weird that you lost your events.
When you lost your events, did you loose them all ?
Were they deleted long after they were successfully synchronized with Lightning ?
Were they deleted in Lightning too ?
Do you synchronize with a local calendar ? A remote one ?
Do you synchronize your items with another software like Outlook ?
Which version of BirdieSync do you have ?
Thanks.

A local one, but an ics file (file:///folder/bla.ics) which is located in the "my documents" folder.Do you synchronize with a local calendar ? A remote one ?
Yes, at home I use Birdiesync with Lightning under Vista, at the office I use ActiveSync 4.5 with Outlook 2003 under WinXPSP2.Do you synchronize your items with another software like Outlook ?
Latest. I always upgrade to latest version when a new comes out.Which version of BirdieSync do you have ?

Re: How do I do a complete resync?
I have to revive this thread.
I often have the problem that all of my events in lightning disappears.
Today this occured after I had to recreate my parnership after doing a hard reset on my pda and restored a backup.
All events are in my pda, no events are in Lighning.
In the past I could solve this by reinstalling Birdiesync. I wish there would be a feature to do a complete resync without reinstalling. Or are there any files/reg entries that I could delete to do a resync?

Re: How do I do a complete resync?
Hello,
As mentioned before, the best way to restart the synchronization is simply to delete ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center partnership and if you are on XP to choose the "Combine" option. Then you can use the "Remove duplicates" tool to remove potential duplicates if some remain after the synchronization. But note that only identical duplicates will be removed.
Before any operation, I suggest you to backup your data as mentioned in this thread.
