After complete PC reset can no longer synch PDA with PC

If BirdieSync 1.x constantly replaces your girlfriend's phone number with your mother's one, this forum is for you...

After complete PC reset can no longer synch PDA with PC

Post by pocketloox77 »

Hi there :-)

Recently I completely re-set my PC (back to factory settings) and forgot to extract Outlook data into a separate file. Since all the data is on my PDA as well (a Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox, Windows Mobile 5.0), I thought I could easily synch from my PDA to my PC (Windows XP). But neither with Outlook/Active Sync 4.1 nor with Thunderbird 2.0/ Birdie I have been able to get my data (especially contacts!) back onto my PC.

I am most terrified of accidentally deleting the contact data stored on my PDA. Have used the software "Sprite Backup" to create a back-up, but I'd rather avoid having to rely on that...

If anyone has any suggestions (I am reasonably computer literate, but not an expert unfortunately), I would be so grateful, as I have spent days looking for a solutions, and could not find any.

Thank you so much in advance!!

Hello,

For more security, I suggest you to also BACKUP your Pocket PC with PPCPimBackup.
You mentioned that you had ActiveSync 4.1. It would be better to install ActiveSync 4.5 which is more reliable.
If you are on XP, when you establish the new partnership, DON'T choose the "Replace" option otherwise the contacts will be deleted on the mobile device (replaced by dekstop ones). Choose the "Combine" option.

Which kind of problem do you have while synchronizing with BirdieSync ? Did you see an alert window ?
Did you choose "cards" synchronization ? (you shouldn't choose "contacts" synchronization which is for Outlook).

After having closed Thunderbird/Sunbird, disconnected, reconnected your mobile device and waited for the end of the synchronization, could you send your logs with "Tools/BirdieSync/Archive logs..." to support(at)birdiesync.com ?
Thanks.
Birdy
