Sync Galaxy Note with Thunderbird from 2 different PC's

Post by pjdevries » Sat Dec 03, 2011 7:21 pm

Hi,

I have been using BirdieSync with a Pocket PC devcie for some time with great satisfaction. I usually work on two different workstations, with Thunderbird accessing it's profile and other data on a network share.

Yesterday I treated myself to a Samsung Galaxy Note. Syncing with an Android device differs somewhat from syncing with a Pocket PC device. One noticeable difference is the requirement to enter an ip address in BirdieSync on the Android device. This binds the device two one specific computer, which obviously is not what I want. Is there a solution to this problem?

Hello pjdevries,

With an Android device, you can choose if you wish to synchronize over the air or with a USB connection (like Windows Mobile devices). If you use a USB connection, you don't have to enter an address in BirdieSync settings on your Android device. If

If you want to synchronize over the air, presently it's not possible to enter 2 different IP addresses in BirdieSync settings. So if you wish to synchronize with a computer with a different address, you have to modify BirdieSync settings. That may evolve in the future though. Note that in the Desktop Address field, you can either enter an IP address or a hostname (DNS or NetBIOS).

Hi Birdy,

Thanks for the reply. USB synchronization is fine with me; even preferable. Unfortunately I don't have the foggiest idea where I can choose between air or usb. Where can I fund such setting?

Regards,

Pieter-Jan

No need to set anything. If you wish to synchronize with USB, just plug your Android device with USB.
But you might need to install USB drivers though. Have a look at this FAQ entry to troubleshoot connection problems with USB.

Another option for you.

If the 2 PC's are not in the same network: make their computer names the same. This is how I sync my home and work PC's without having to change the PC name on my Android device

Hi Peter,

Thanx for thinking along! Unfortunately in my case both PC's are in the same network, so this solution won't work for me.

Pieter-Jan
