Suddenly, no more e-mail syncronisation

Post by fhey »

Hello.

Until last month, everything worked fine.
Now e-mail syncronisation is not possible.
After contact- and agenda-syncronisation (both is OK) comes mail-sync with: "unexpected error".
(No changes on my Win7 Laptop, no new software installed...).

I tried the following:
- Update of Thunderbird 9.0.x to 12.0
- Update of Lightning to 1.4
- Update of BirdieSync to 2.3.12.0
- Uninstall BirdieSync on HTC HD2 (WM6.5), reboot and reinstall BirdieSync 2.3.12.0 on HTC
No problems during the updates. Every installation works fine.

Unfortunately still the same problem.
Sync of contacts and agenda is OK.
Sync of mail failed "unexpected error".

Here the Birdie Logfile:
- Synchronization started
- Thunderbird was launched successfully
- Waiting for Android device connection...
- HTC-HD2-FH - Global - Kontakte [Desktop]: 0 created, 0 modified, 0 deleted, [Device]: 0 created, 0 modified,
0 deleted
- HTC-HD2-FH - Global - Termine [Desktop]: 0 created, 0 modified, 0 deleted, [Device]: 0 created, 0 modified,
0 deleted
- ERROR: An error occured on the mobile device while enumerating items (GetLastError = 0)
- ERROR: Cannot enumerate mobile device items (GetLastError = 0)
- ERROR: Cannot prepare global synchronization of Mails (result = 0x0) (GetLastError = 0)
- Synchronization ended

Why is there a "Waiting for Android"? I have Windows Mobile 6.5 (and this was founded during BirdieSync installation automatically and is so installed).

What can I do to solve the mail sync problem?

Any tip would be helpful :-)
Many thanks in advance.

Best regards
Frank

Hello Frank,

The mail database on the mobile device may have an incorrect entry which stops the synchronization.
After having closed Thunderbird, disconnected, reconnected your mobile device and waited for the end of the synchronization (or the synchronization error), could you send your logs with the Thunderbird menu "Tools/BirdieSync/Archive logs..." to support(at)birdiesync.com ?
Thanks.

Even if you use a Windows Mobile device, it is possible that you use another device (Android or Iphone) you may also wish to synchronize. So BirdieSync is also waiting for connection of Android devices. Anyway it shouldn't consume much memory or CPU resources.

Hello.

Thunderbird menu "Tools/BirdieSync/Archive logs..."

--> A new windows opens, but the "Create Log-Archiv" button is disabled.
Error-Message: "Mobile device is not connected".
But it is, I can sync contacts / agenda at the same time...

Birdie-Software menu "Help/Transfer logfiles from mobile device..."
--> Error-message: "An error occures during transfering logfiles..."

Birdie-Software menu "Help/Archive logs..."
--> Error-Message: "Mobile device is not connected".
But it is, I can sync contacts / agenda at the same time...

Best regards

If the Windows Mobile Device Center is installed on your PC, did you try to restart it as described in this FAQ topic ?
You may also try to soft reset (reboot) your mobile device, restart log archiver and reboot your PC if necessary.

Note that the menu "Help/Transfer mobile device log" is not necessary and doesn't work for Windows Mobile device (only iPhone and Android). In case of Windows Mobile device, the mobile device log should be transferred by the log archiver (if it succeeds in connecting to the mobile device).

Hello.

Thank you for your support.

Yes, Mobile Device Center is installed on my PC.
And WMDC sais always: device is connected.

Following the instructions here:
http://www.birdiesync.com/how-can-i-res ... ice-center
- Disconnect my mobile device
- Kill wmdhost.exe
- Kill wmdc.exe
- Restart the WMDC (from the Control Panel for instance)
--> I did it several times
and
"soft reset (reboot) mobile device,"
"restart log archiver"
"reboot PC"
--> I did it several times
Still the same problem.

I have de-installed BirdieSync on PC and HTC (+reboot PC/HTC)
and new installed BirdieSync.
Then I repeated the steps again.

Still the same problem.
Sync of calender = OK
Sync of contacts = Ok
Sync of emails = not possible (unexpected error)
Archive logs = not possible (not connected)
(but device IS conected in BirdieSync and connected in WMDC!)

What else can I do?

Best regards
Frank

When you connect your mobile device, can you access to the files present on your mobile device from Windows file explorer ?
If yes, after the mail synchronization error, can you send to support(at)birdiesync.com the file BirdieSync.log present in \Application Data\BirdieSync\Log on your Windows Mobile device ?
Thanks.

Hello.

I could just solve the problem:

In Thunderbird\tools\BirdieSync\Options\Mail I have disabled all folders and subfolders.
Then I deleted all the folders on my mobile phone.
Now the sync worked ;-)

Then I have activated one folder after another in Thunderbird\tools\BirdieSync\Options\Mail
and started a sync after each folder. Every sync worked fine.
Every folder synced now, except the very last one (thanks Murphy).

I've seen in the file \Application Data\BirdieSync\Log\BirdieSync.log on my mobile phone as you wrote.
Here was an error reference to the file attachment of an email on the Mobile Phone.
After I have deleted this email, the synchronization worked for this last folder, too.

Everythink works fine, now :-)

Result:
Because there was a problems with one single email, ALL folders of ALL email accounts are not synchronized.

It would be nice to simply skip defective single emails and to sync the rest.
That could be a useful improvement for the next version of birdiesync :-)

best regards

Glad you could sort out the problem with the log !
Yes you are right, it would be better not to stop the whole synchronization because of a problem with a specific folder or email. That would need to be improved in BirdieSync synchronization process (among other things). But it is not a minor change. This will need to be improved when other major changes will be implemented...
