Birdiesync 3.0 - final version after test period

Post by hanns_albers »

When will Birdiesync 3.0 (final version) be launched?
In the meantime even Thunderbird 38.1.0 is available.

I see the test period dragging out a bit. The problems however that are coming up don't seem to affect my environment: TB on Windows 7 x64 syncing only the address book with an iPad 2 running iOS 8.4.
I'd like to upgrade to TB 38.1 and of course I would need to use the beta version of BirdieSync 3.0. What level would the risk be?

Regards,
Ulrich

Hello,

If I look at the problems that has been fixed until now, very few regarded the synchronization in itself and data was properly synchronized. In 3.0 you can also preview all the operations which will be performed during synchronization. So it's a good way to check that your data is synchronized as you wish. Also contrary to version 2.x, if synchronization is interrupted for some reason, next synchronization should "resume" at the point of interruption, without creating additional duplicates. At the moment I write this post, there are still points to be improved when "Combining" items at first synchronization to avoid duplicates in some specific cases and when removing duplicates.
The main aspects in this current version which need to be improved are its performances as well as some aspects of the user interface to make easier the configuration. But it may still be necessary to work on these points after the final version is released.
When synchronizing, it's always a good idea to regularly backup it's data. Some solutions for this are described in this FAQ entry.
BirdieSync synchronization engine has been tested a lot but it doesn't mean that problems may not occur while synchronizing.

Hi Birdie,

How is it looking for moving from Beta?
Sounds like most of the bugs are gone and it would be great to install without registering with Google (sort a major reason for selecting BirdieSync)

Thanks,

After looking at the procedure to install the beta on my iPad I decided to not try this. Recently, I upgraded to TBird 38.2.0 and disabled Birdiesync. I'll wait for the final version before I'll sync my address book again.

Yes.
I'm in the same boat as you, UlliB: have not synched in a month while waiting for ver 3.x to come out of Beta.

Sorry BirdieSync people but you have to get your act together and release the 3 version officially.
It's been how long now? - 3-4 months at least.
You cannot hold your paying customers from upgrading Thunderbird any longer. There are security patches that need to be applied.

Signing up for the beta for iOS is a pain in the neck. I looked at the procedure and decided to keep away from this.

I don't. Policy. I like BirdieSync but if it doesn't come out of beta pretty soon I'll have to find something else.

Actually, not everyone can use the Beta 3.x. In order to access the Beta 3.x for iPhone, you must have iOS 8.x. I am on 7.2 and cannot upgrade to 8.x due to hardware limitations. So, no Beta 3.x for me. Birdy told me the final release would work on iOS 6.x and later, so I'm stuck waiting.
