problem about character encoding

host: WindowsXPSP2, Sunbird0.3
smartphone: X01HT(HTC Hermes,WM5),Softbank,Japan

I use Sunbird with .ics including Japanese characters encoding UTF-8.
After sync, some Jp characters are OK in pocketoutlook. However, some Jp characters are garbled partialy. It means that only the end of the word is garbled.

Can you tell me if the problem exists in the title field of the event, in the description field, both ?

Hi Birdy,

It occurs in both the title and the location field.
But I don't know if the problem occurs in the description fields because I don't write detail about the events.

BirdieSync is the only solution which synchronizes bitween ical and PocketOutlook. Finally I found this useful software!

Thanks,
Y2

It is possible to give me a word that doesn't work so I can make some tests with it ? I'd like it very small since it is easier to work with it.
You can either write it here (I don't know if it works) or send a mail to support address.
Thanks.

for exsample...

Sunbird PocketOutlook
--------------------------------
注文 注
注文日 注□E *

*Just look like this. This doesn't reflect the exact character codes, maybe.

A kanji-charactor is missing in the former exsample, and a grabled character is seen in the latter one.

Regarding your example, could you give me the original good word in Sunbird and the corrupted corresponding word in Pocket Outlook ?
Thanks.

PO: 注 E

Thank you for your quickly and kindly responces.

I found that the same encoding problems were happening in the Task field also.

Yes, I think that the same problem occurs in the title of the task. This will be corrected in next release.
If you notice other fields that don't have a correct encoding, don't hesitate to signal them.

Yes, the fix was tested and will be included in next version.
For the moment, avoid non ASCII characters in mail folder names.

Encoding of non ASCII characters should be better managed in new 1.5.0.0 version. If you find new problems, don't hesitate to signal them.

I am trying Birdriesync 1.6.4.0. I have Thunderbird 2.0
I have problem with czech characters. In my PDA in Pocket outlook are characters OK, but when I synchronize with Thunderbird, the czech characters in Thunderbird are damage. Why? In have set in my PDA ISO-8859-2 and in my Thunderbird too.
